Rise 8 Basketball Academy is a non-profit youth basketball organization located in Carson City, Nevada. We provide camps, clinics, and travel tournament opportunities that allow young players the opportunity to take their game to a higher level. Our experienced coaching staff is committed to teaching proper fundamentals in a competitive, fun, and safe environment where athletes will be pushed to become their best on the court and in the classroom.
Vision
Our vision is to use the game of basketball to develop the character, resilience, competitive spirit, and teamwork necessary for our alumni to become leaders in responding to adversity both on the court and in their communities.
Core Values
- Character: Be on time and ready to work in practice. Tell the truth and use clean language. Respect your coach, your teammates, the officials, and the opposing team. It’s easy to blame others after a loss. Instead, we must learn to take responsibility and look inward; what can I do to help this team be more successful? Am I giving a perfect effort? If so, how can I help my teammates do the same? This is a winning mindset.
- Resilience: Rise 8 players will learn to have a “next play” mentality. We can’t control the past so there is no point in dwelling there. Learn the lesson that needs to be learned, keep your body language positive, and focus on giving your all in the next play. Responding to adversity positively on the court will prepare Rise 8 alumni to do the same throughout their lives. Poor body language, tantrums, complaining, etc. will not be tolerated.
- Competitive Spirit: It’s natural to feel nerves before a game or big event. Rise 8 players will learn to overcome fear, anxiety, etc. and never back down from a challenge. They will learn to love the little things that make all the difference between wins and losses: rebounding, avoiding turnovers, shot selection, transition defense, and communication.
- Teamwork: Being a great teammate is as much a learned skill as shooting a free throw. Like building any other skill, becoming a great teammate takes focus and effort. Help defense, making the extra pass, and communicating with your team are all signs of good teamwork. Our goal is for each Rise 8 player to develop into a selfless teammate.
Tryout Schedule
Below is the tryout schedule for all age groups. Players are not required to attend every session to participate in tryouts, but they are strongly encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible for their age group.
